For most of my work a Spectrum XT works fine, Metageek’s DBX’s inside Ekahau ESS for light work. Sure miss a lightweight, simple Cognio solution. Would love to have constellation and EVM analysis for real-time work. Thinking about the Tektronix RSA306 for that purpose alone. But don’t want to be the first. Does the SoundHound or Spectran alternatives offer Constellation analysis in real-time? Anyone bit the bullet and spent the big $$ yet?
Anyone want to go in “halfsies” on the Textronix?

Regarding SpecAn’s, my monies on the http://spectran-developer.net/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=667 if they ever offically release it!

Not sure if its still available for purchase but I’ve got mine.
Looks like its in the NetScout linecard still. http://enterprise.netscout.com/content/datasheet-airmagnet-spectrum-es-cellular-spectrum-analyzer Anybody want me to check further?

@rick, is the ES still around? I thought they killed that off with the netscout thing

For full band I’ve always used Anritsu. but I don’t think they have anything that competes with these prices for new equipment. Anritus does have a sale for demo equipment going on now. Here is the link in case that’s of interest to you: http://www.goanritsu.com/demo?utm_source=ASR&utm_medium=EM&utm_campaign=ASR_ASR_16APR_AprilDemo_EM_Demo_MULTI-P_DEMO_OT-03112&cmp_id=Q6UJ9A086ATL&elqTrackId=80B5FC1E75C55250E792A4AD25CC8B0D&elq=0896255b3fe3408289649a014583ada7&elqaid=1920&elqat=1&elqCampaignId=1754
For Cellular I use AirMagnet Spectrum ES.

which tektronics model are we talking about? I’ve played with the RSA306 and was very impressed, had some fun analyzing LTE and CDMA/GSM bands with it as well. I’d like to get my hands on a RSA500, anyone have any experience with one?
BB60C • Real-time Spectrum Analyzer (RTSA) | Signal Hound
The Signal Hound BB60C is a 9 kHz to 6 GHz Real-time Spectrum Analyzer (RTSA) and RF Recorder with sweep speeds of 24 GHz/sec. Only $2879 USD—order online.
seems interesting also
similar to the Tek but at a better price point

I am looking for a wide spectrum
not just wifi
rick [10:31 AM]
Troy, are you looking for Wi-Fi Only SpecAn or wide spectrum? For Wi-Fi only (in order of cost/features) AirMagnet Spectrum XT, MetaGeek WiSpy DBx, and Nuts for Nets has one called RF Explorer 6G Combo that looks interesting but I haven’t personally tried it. Anyone have experience with that one? For wide spectrum it gets a little deeper.
it’ll never replace your Cognio 😉
I’m thinking of getting a single unit for the ‘heavy lifting’ analysis, but it’s clearly not WiFi troubleshooting focused – its far more about protocol/radio development
sclements [10:11 AM]
I didn’t have a whole ton of time with it, so it was a ‘guided remote’ tour of the software
keithrparsons [10:10 AM]
@sclements: did you test all the various software options, or just the base Textronix unit? I’m thinking of getting one just for the constellation features. It would be a great way to test EVM issues LIVE. Your thoughts?
sclements [10:05 AM]
that Tektronix unit was pretty cool as far as spec ans go. Not very portable, but symbol decoding and constellation views live for sub $5k is outstanding.
