I’m trying to catalog which vendors use protection mechanisms on a per-SSID basis and which vendors use protection mechanisms for all SSIDs if even one of the SSIDs have the need for protection.
For example, suppose that I have a dual-band 11ac/11n AP. An 11b client associates, which causes the 2.4GHz radio to use non-ERP Present protection (usually RTS/CTS). Is the protection only kicked off for that SSID?….e.g. does only that SSID’s beacons show “Non-ERP Present = 1” and announce “Use Protection = 1” in the ERP IE?…OR… Do all SSIDs on that radio do it at the same time?
Anyone know how specific vendors handle this?
I believe this mechanism should be enabled on radio level, rather than SSID level. For example, if there are 11b client(s) around, the protection (rts-cts) should be there not only for a single SSID, it should be there for all 2.4Ghz Tx, regardless of SSID.
